Cross Border Xpress Opens at Tijuana Airport

      December 9, 2015

CrossBorderXpressCross Border Xpress, an enclosed pedestrian skywalk bridge across the U.S./Mexico border into Tijuana Airport, opened today, Wednesday, December 9. The project includes a parking garage and access to ground transportation on the U.S. side of the border, U.S. customs and immigration facilities, and the skywalk bridge, to be used exclusively by passengers who fly in and/or out of Tijuana Airport and cross the U.S./Mexico border as part of their trip.

HELIX environmental planners, biologists, noise specialists, and other technical experts prepared the state-level and federal-level environmental documentation for the project, and assisted in obtaining the required Presidential Permit from the State Department for the Cross Border Xpress project. As described in a State Department announcement at the time the Presidential Permit was issued, Cross Border Xpress will offer travelers “quick, secure, and reliable access to flights at the Tijuana Airport, reduce congestion at neighboring border crossings, and curb economic losses associated with border delays.”

To celebrate the opening, Cross Border Xpress is offering free passage (i.e., waiver of their regular $18 fee) between December 9-18.
