Communication Tower at Spring Hill/Chocolate Mountains Aerial Gunnery Range

Chocolate MtnsHELIX Environmental Planning (HELIX) managed an Environmental Assessment (EA) for Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southwest that evaluated a proposed 150-foot-tall communications tower on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) property just outside the Chocolate Mountains Aerial Gunnery Range in eastern Riverside County. The project site was within a BLM-designated Desert Wildlife Management Area and occupied by the federally listed desert tortoise. HELIX also prepared a visual analysis using the BLM’s visual resource management methodology.
