HELIX seeking a proactive and technically skilled IT Support Manager to work with the IT Director in leading our IT operations and support infrastructure, located out of one of our Northern CA offices. HELIX provides biological, CEQA/NEPA, cultural resource management, habitat restoration, regulatory permitting, environmental compliance monitoring, acoustics and noise control, GIS, and air quality and greenhouse gas services to both the public and private sectors.

Responsibilities/Duties

The IT Support Manager will be responsible for overseeing daily IT operations, including network administration, help desk support, and system maintenance. In addition, they will manage and mentor a team of IT professionals, providing guidance and support to junior staff. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys mentoring teams, and is passionate about delivering reliable and secure technology solutions that drive business success. We are looking for someone with strong analytical and decision-making skills, especially in high-pressure situations.

  • Administer and maintain on-prem Microsoft Windows server environment.
  • Using endpoint management system: oversee inventory, installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all hardware, software, and peripheral devices.
  • Maintain and update internal team and external user technical documentation.
  • Support and manage company video and telecommunications software.
  • Ensure network connectivity and performance across all workstations and remote access via VPN.
  • Manage security infrastructure, including firewalls, anti-virus, intrusion detection systems, and perform regular server and security audits.
  • Administer user identity management, including account provisioning, permissions, access rights, and single sign-on (SSO) technologies within Microsoft Entra.
  • Perform system backups and maintain disaster recovery procedures and training plans.
  • Collaborate with the Office Manager and leadership team on network design, capacity planning, and new site deployments.
  • Work with IT Director in conducting research on emerging technologies, products, and standards to support procurement and development efforts.
  • Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure IT and network services.
  • Implement automation and system integrations to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual processes.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field — or equivalent experience in the industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in IT, with at least 2 years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Experience managing new technology rollouts across departments or business units.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Experience implementing automation and integrations between systems to improve efficiency and reduce manual work.
  • Strong understanding of user identity management and single sign-on (SSO) technologies.
  • Extensive knowledge of security best practices and experience applying them in enterprise environments.

Additional Skills Considered a Plus

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., ITIL, PMP, CISSP, Microsoft Certified)
  • Experience with IT budgeting and cost optimization strategies.
  • Experience administering FortiGate Firewall OS.
  • Experience with Meraki switches and APs.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks such as HIPAA, SOC 2, or ISO 27001.
  • Knowledge of endpoint management platforms (e.g., ManageEngine, Jamf, or Intune).
  • Experience supporting hybrid or fully remote work environments.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and communicate effectively with executive leadership.

Salary

Pay will be based on qualifications and/or experience, with a robust benefits package. Expected starting pay range of $115,000 to $135,000 annually.
