Otay Hills

HELIX is providing environmental services in support of a 100-acre aggregate extraction project located within a 410-acre study area in the East Otay Mesa Community in south San Diego County. The project involves establishment of a mineral resource recovery operation and associated activities to provide much-needed construction aggregates and materials to serve future development in San Diego County for an approximate 80-year period.

HELIX is preparing an EIR and the following biological studies: focused species surveys for quino checkerspot butterly, coastal California gnatcatcher, burrowing owl, and rare plants; biological technical report; jurisdictional delineation; habitat management plan; and habitat restoration plan. HELIX is also coordinating closely with staff from County of San Diego, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and California Department of Fish and Game.
